Land
Our family’s vineyards stretch largely over the hills of Cisterna d’Asti, at the heart of the Terre Alfieri designation of origin.

They lie on the border between the hills of Roero and Asti, which merge in Cisterna d'Asti, giving rise to rich, varied soils. Geologically similar to that of Roero, which extends south-west towards Bra, the land is high in sand and limestone
However, the sands of Asti, coming from the east, enrich the geology of the place with formations of yellow sandstone, silt and clay, sometimes so compact as to become rock formations.
A characteristic of Cisterna d’Asti is the surprising variety of the agricultural landscape. The rows of vines alternate with age-old woods, cultivated fields, vegetable gardens and orchards, forming a mosaic of crops and nature.
The white soils of Roero and the darker ones of the Asti area give our vineyards an exceptional geological base for the cultivation of vines, enhancing the fineness and elegance of the area’s main varieties: Arneis, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Croatina.

Croatina, a surprising native grape variety from Cisterna d'Asti.

Among the native grapes we grow in Cisterna d'Asti, Croatina deserves a special mention. A cultivar typical of northern Piedmont, it arrived in Cisterna in ancient times, soon becoming a characteristic variety of the area, documented since the early 1800s. Still today, walking through the vineyards, you can find ungrafted specimens of Croatina dating back 100 years and more. The link between Cisterna and Croatina has been recognised by a specific designation of origin, Cisterna d’Asti Doc, which can only be produced in 13 municipalities on the border between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. Vinified separately and aged for at least two years, our Croatina gives rise to a Cisterna d’Asti Superiore of surprising elegance. This is a wine with an intense hue, delicate scents and an excellent structure, for a harmoniously soft and pleasantly tannic flavour.
